Ingredients

  • Crab – 1
  • Small Onion – 20 (shallots)
  • Oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic – 10
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Coriander leaves – few
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Tomato – 1
  • Cumin – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Coriander – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder – 2 pinches
  • Salt – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Water – 1 litre
  • Cumin powder – 2 pinches
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 tablespoon

Things to be done before we start cooking

  • Take 1 crab – Wash and clean the crab.
  • Peel the skin of 20 shallots. Crush them a little using ‘mortar and pestle’.
  • Peel the skin of 10 cloves of garlic, crush them using ‘mortar and pestle’.
  • Take ginger – 1 inch size, cut them into small pieces using ‘mortar and pestle’.
  • Tomato – 1 medium sized, cut them into smaller pieces.

Steps to Prepare

  • Place a pan (3 litre capacity or even bigger) on the burner, turn on the stove, keep flame in HIGH mode.
  • Once the pan gets a little hot, Turn the flame to LOW MODE. Then do the following –
    • Pour in 2 tablespoons of oil.
    • Put in the crushed small onions (20 small onions crushed).
  • Stir a little till onions get soft, never fry till they turn light brown.
  • Add the crushed garlic (10 cloves), stir a little for 10 seconds. Then, add crushed ginger and stir for 5 seconds.
  • Now, put in few coriander leaves and 2 green chillies (no need to cut the chillies – put them as whole). Stir a little for 5 seconds.
  • Add the pieces of tomato (1 medium sized) – stir for just 10 seconds.
  • Now let’s add the below –
    • Cumin – 1/4 tbsp
    • Coriander – 1/4 tbsp
    • Turmeric powder – 2 pinches
    • Stir well.
  • Put in the crab (1 piece) – we can put the crab as a whole – no need to break the legs and add as small pieces. If needed we can break the legs and add crab into soup.
  • Then add the below –
    • Salt – 1/4 tbsp
    • Water – 1 litre
    • Stir a little.
  • Let’s follow the below steps –
    • Close the pan with a lid.
    • Turn the flame to HIGH MODE.
    • In 2 minutes, the water will come to boiling temperature.
    • Now, turn the flame to LOW MODE.
    • Let the contents get cooked for the next 15 minutes in low mode
  • Now, remove the lid, stir gently for 5 seconds. Then add –
    • Cumin powder – 2 pinches
    • Black Pepper powder – 1/2 tbsp or (little less if we need less spice in soup)
    • Stir well to mix.
  • Let the contents cook in low flame for another 1 minute.
  • Then sprinkle mint leaves on the top. Turn off the flame.
  • Our soup is ready to be tasted.
