The easiest way to make a tasty chilli chicken – let’s see how to prepare chilli chicken.


For Frying

  • Chicken – 1/2kg (boneless)
  • Oil – 150ml
  • Chilli powder – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Salt – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Corn flour powder – 2 tablespoon
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tablespoon

For gravy

  • Oil – 3 tablespoon
  • Onion – 2 Medium size
  • Green chilli – 3
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Chilli powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Salt – 2 tablespoons
  • Ajinamoto – 2 pinch
  • Capsicum – 2 Medium size
  • Food color – as required
  • Soya sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Pepper – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Water – 100ml

Things to be done before we start cooking

  • Take 100g of peeled ginger and 100g of garlic, grind them together until they become paste.
  • Chop 2 medium sized onions – into larger pieces.
  • Chop green chilli into smaller pieces.

Steps to Prepare

Take ½ kg boneless chicken in a bowl. (cut into very small pieces – 20gm each)

Then add the below to the chicken –

  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Salt – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Corn flour – 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tablespoon

Mix the masala and chicken with our hands. All the chicken pieces must get a coat of the masala.
Keep the bowl aside – Let the chicken pieces soak in the masala for 10 minutes.

Place a pan on the big burner. Turn on the flame.

Pour 150 ml of oil. Let the oil boil in high flame.
Once oil boils, turn flame to LOW.

Now, add a few pieces of the chicken (coated with masala) to the hot oil in pan.

Spread the pieces evenly on the pan so that all get cooked equally.
Cook the chicken pieces in LOW flame for 10 minutes. Stir constantly. Don’t worry if the chicken pieces stick together as corn flour will surely stick the pieces.

After 10 minutes in low flame, the chicken pieces would have got cooked well.
Now, lets take the pieces out and keep them in a separate bowl.

Repeat the same cooking process for all the chicken pieces that we have.
Collect the cooked chicken pieces in a bowl and keep them aside.

After frying chicken, pour the hot oil from the pan into another bowl.
Keep 3 tablespoon of hot oil in pan itself.
We can use this oil to prepare gravy.

Add the medium size chopped onions to the pan with hot oil.
Keep the flame in HIGH.
Fry the onions for 30 seconds till they turn a little brown.

Then add 3 green chillies (chopped into small).
Stir for 10 seconds. Then put the flame in LOW.

Next, add the fried chicken pieces.
Stir for 10 seconds.

Put salt – just 2 pinches (little less than 1/4 tablespoon)
Add Red chilli powder – 1/4 tablespoon
Ajinomoto – 2 pinches (it will give good street side dish taste – we can skip if not interested)
Capsicum – 2 medium sized, chopped.
Water – 100 ml
Food colour – 2 pinches (it will give good colour – if not interested we can skip this)

Stir well so that all contents get mixed.

Close the pan with a lid – Let the flame be in LOW.
Let the contents get cooked for 4 or 5 minutes.

Now, open the lid. Turn flame to HIGH.
Let the water drain a little – so that we can see a little gravy in pan.

Pour soya sauce – 1 tablespoon (good flavour). For 5 seconds stir the contents.

Sprinkle pepper powder (white or black) – 1/4 tablespoon. Stir for 5 seconds.
Turn off the burner.
Our chilli chicken (street side style) – semi gravy dish – is ready to be devoured.
