Dishes made from chicken are a favorite among non vegetarians. The butter garlic chicken is a easy to prepare recipe and serves as a tasty starter. Its very flavorful and healthy too and can be prepared with less ingredients.


  • Chicken – 500g (boneless, cut into small pieces)
  • Salt – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Corn Flour – 3/4 tablespoon
  • Butter – 1 tablespoon
  • Oil – 100g
  • Onion – 1
  • Garlic – 10
  • Green Chilli – 5
  • Salt – 2 pinch
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Soya sauce – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Spring onion – few leaves

Things to be done before we start cooking

  • Wash chicken pieces – drain all water – keep them aside in a bowl.
  • Onion – 1 (medium size) – chop it into smaller pieces.
  • Green chilli – 1, cut it into smaller pieces.
  • Garlic – 10 cloves, cut it into smaller pieces.
  • Take 100 grams of ginger and garlic – Peel their skin – then, grind them together to obtain the “ginger-garlic” paste.

Steps to Prepare

(1)    Take the cleaned chicken pieces in a bowl. Add the below to the chicken pieces –

  • Salt – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice – 1/2 tablespoon (or) vinegar – 1 tablespoon.
  • Corn flour – 3/4 tablespoon

Mix all the contents well.

Let the chicken pieces marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.

(2)     Turn on the flame to LOW mode. Place a pan or kadaii on the burner in low flame. Pour 100g of oil. Let it heat a little.

(3)     Once the oil gets little hot, start adding the chicken pieces. Don’t stir or move the chicken pieces for the first 60 seconds. There are chances that it may break.

(4)     After 60 seconds, use a wooden spatula and shake the pieces a little so that they don’t stick with one another. Do it gently.

After 2 minutes, turn each of the pieces to other side.

Repeat flipping each piece to the other side every 2 minute so that pieces get cooked evenly on all sides.

(5)     Let the chicken pieces get cooked well in low flame for approximately 10 minutes. Then, turn off the flame. Take out chicken pieces and place them in a plate.

(6)     Pour out oil from the same pan which we used to cook chicken and place it on the burner again (or) we can use another new pan. Turn on the flame to LOW mode.

(7)     Put butter – 1 tablespoon. Let it little hot in low flame (for 20 seconds). Put in the below –

  • Onion – 1 (medium sized, cut into smaller pieces)
  • Green chilli – 1 (cut into smaller pieces)
  • Garlic – 4 cloves (cut into very small pieces)

Stir the contents in low flame for 60 seconds.

(8)     Now, add the cooked chicken pieces to the pan. Then, add the below –

  • Salt – 2 pinches (less than ¼ tablespoon)
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Soya Sauce – 1/2 tablespoon

Stir a little for 5 seconds

  • Spring onion – take just 4 or 5 strands and remove the onions apart – we need to just chop the grass part alone into long pieces – put them in a water to wash thoroughly. Then add the cleaned grass pieces into the pan.

Stir well for another 1 minute.

(9)     As a last step, pour 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice on the chicken pieces. Stir a little for 10 seconds. Turn off the flame.

Our ‘butter garlic chicken’ is ready to be tasted.
