Things to be done before we start cooking

  •   Wash the mutton pieces in water – let the water drain off from pieces.
  •   Take 100 grams of ginger and garlic – grind them together into a fine paste.
  •   Drum stick – 3. Wash and cut them.

Steps to Prepare

(1)    Place a pan on the burner – Turn on the flame.

(2)    Pour 4 tablespoons of oil and put the chopped onions (2 medium sized). Let the onions fry a little until they turn glossy – don’t let it get fried till light brown colour.

(3)    Add the below –

  •   1 tablespoon of ‘ginger-garlic’ paste.
  •   Put coriander leaves – few (1/4 of bunch)
  •   Green chilli – 2
  •   Tomato – 1 (chop)

Stir a little. Then start adding the below after turning the flame to LOW mode.

  •   Salt – 1/2 tablespoon
  •   Coriander powder – 1/2 tablespoon
  •   Chilli powder – 1/4 tablespoon
  •   Turmeric powder – 1/4 tablespoon

Stir a little so that all masala mixes up well.

(4)    Now, let’s add the washed mutton pieces (after draining away water) to the masala mix in pan. Then,

  • Pour water – 200 ml and stir a little.
  • Close the pan with a lid.
  • Turn the flame to HIGH mode now.
  • Let the water come to boiling state with flame in high mode for 2 minutes.

(5)    Once we see steam coming out from the sides of lid, lets turn the flame to LOW mode. Let the mutton pieces get cooked in low flame for 25 to 30 minutes. Thus, we can obtain soft mutton pieces.

(6)    Take a mixer jar and add the below into it –

  • 3 coconut pieces – cut them into smaller pieces
  • tomato – 1 medium sized – cut into smaller pieces
  • Green chilli – 1 – cut into smaller pieces

Grind them into a paste.

(7)    After 20 minutes, remove the lid from pan with mutton, stir a little. Now, add the smaller pieces of 3 drumstick. Close the lid again, let the contents cook in LOW flame for 10 minutes.

(8)    After 10 minutes, remove the lid. Take one piece of mutton to check if it got cooked completely. Then, add the paste available in ‘mixer jar’. Stir for 30 seconds.

(9)    Let the flame be in medium mode and contents get cooked for another 5 minutes. After 5 minutes of cooking in medium flame, our salna will be ready to be served.
